  • give people responsibility and freedom

  • give space and freedom to make it happen

  • lack of control = burnout
  • break down in community
  • insufficient reward
  • lack of fairness
  • burnout = missmatch between people & job
Small team: more apt to team mate who's burned out.
If a member cant unplug then there's something wrong with the company
No one is indispensable, if there's one, do something about it

establish culture of YES
Just say NO synchrome can go into work too


No = lost to startup verb
No to smart creative = stop asking, heading to exist

Say YES, infact say yes as often as u can,  saying yes begins things, saying yes is how things grow, saying yes lead to new exp, new exp lead to knowlege and wisdom, attitude of yes lead you forward to uncertain times. --micheal hogan

Fun-
Laugh joke, enjoys company. at party "Now get back to work"
organization event = need to have flare. IE fun wedding

Team building event- offsite
forget team building, just have fun
new place, far from office, do able in a day.
activities they cant do alone

Fun culture = fun from everywhere, nothing can be sacred, lose boundaries

Meme gen can be fun-cut through the conversary, permissive environment, no "what happend if this leak",

more fun = more get done

when u do a turnaround, seek a smartest people first, seek one

changing an ongoing enterprise is verrrry difficult, but critical to success

step1- recognize the problem, what problem does this culture cause, dont criticize, draw connection between business and culture
acticulate new culture you envision, write the future
promote transparency, open up everyone calendar of everyone, open up wide company meeting and allow question & answer honestly and authentically

it been said, every institution is the extensive shadow of one person.

building the legacy don't be afraid to abolish what doesn't work



Hire people who believe in you, who willing to make the same sacrifice. insane enough to believe u actually succeed, and sane enough to do it!

were all in this together, none of us are ablove the lenial act, lead need passion, if you dont have it, get out! we do small little work like cleaning up counter because we cares.

Japanese Toyota- any employee can pull the cord to hold production- ie Don't be evil

The best culture are aspirational- live up to our ideal, there will be failure, more case people over deliver which set the bar higher and makes company better

STRATEGY- your plan is wrong

no matter how well plan = always flaw in some important way. :. Achieving failure

Invest in the team, not the plan

Plan can change and progress, its the team that adjust and deal with the plan.

Plan need to base on a foundation principle, plan is fluid, the foundation is stable.

"we'll figure it out approach" able to roll with the punch.

Don't trust a plan that have all the answer.

Give new hire the foundation elements, and they can figure out the rest.


Bet on technical insight, not market research-- drive down the cost, better than competition in a fundamental way.

porter is great for percentage existing company.

but terrible for startup new company,

suit become more important than lab coat = fail

flat lining product = ones that lack technical insight, or insight become dated as internet evolve

combinatory innovation = combine to create new innovation


 DONT LOOK FOR FASTER HORSES

if I had listening to customer, i'd had gone out looking for faster horses

What is your technical insight? cant articulate the answer, = bad product


OPTIMIZE for Growth

if want to grow big, need to scale.
grow very quickly & globally, anyone can do it

scale need to be core part of strategy

create & quickly growth platform, ie news paper, ebay, youtube, telephone
more people use=more useful
